Hope you're having a good afternoon my friend. Just a quick note for you to say the art film WITH(IN) is now available on iTunes. MOTHandRUST was briefed by our client Portland Green Cultural Projects to design the covers for two separate but related films, IN AROUND AND CORNERED and WITHIN AGAINST AND UPON.  These two films comprise the WITH(IN) compilation, hence its cover design clearly depicting both covers.  All three film covers were designed with their placement on iTunes taken into consideration, so that they are bold and impactful even at small screen sizes.

You can watch them here, they're really good.

We also helped Portland prep one of the films for a screening in Times Square (Erika Janunger's, Weightless, 2012). You can see an image above, it looks great, more art should be featured in Times Square, I reckon.

Hey hey the MLE,

Reporting back from designjunction last night, a London event showcasing furniture, lighting and product design. It was quite fun, as it's a bit trade show, but also there are pop-up shops selling things, large installations, seminars, screening, and places to eat and drink etc. The venue itself was perfect, a derelict 1960s Sorting Office in central London.

In the first photo shows Daniel sitting in his favourite piece, a very comfortable chair, but I lost the card I collected, so don't know the designer. Second is the Nick Fraser coat rack. Third is the Hybrid No2 chair by Merve Kahraman (when I showed my interior architect friends in the pub after they did not approve however). What they did approve of is the fourth product, the classic Anglepoise 1227 brass wall mounted lamp, so that is good. And finally, both Daniel and I quite liked these Richard Brendon china sets. Well I thought they were entire dinner sets judging by the price, but they are actually unique individual cups and saucers. But beautiful.

Hello Emelie,

I know, this is old news now. I wanted to mail you about this ASAP after The Big News Announcement, but had a really busy day. Anyway, everyone’s asking it, so I’ll ask it too: what do you think about the new Apple Watch?

Second thing I asked myself was why it was not called, “iWatch.” After some research, it seems Apple’s marketing people decided to remove the “i” because one big challenge to the product’s success is whether people are actually want to be seen wearing one. It’s fashion first, technology second, so no geeky “i”.

I can certainly see why Apple is so concerned about the fashion issue, and I can definitely see everyone wearing their new Apple Watch in early 2015 when it is first released… But then, in a year or two, after the novelty has worn off, and everyone’s tired of the zillions of new straps and ways to pimp it, it will be seen as a bit silly and boring to wear one (see photo above), and people will go back to their iPhones, Rolex, or the latest from Bell&Ross etc etc.

Or will it be a more essential product like the iPhone or iPad?

I hope you are doing well. As you know, I have been away in the beautiful English countryside for a week to recharge my batteries and now I am back and full of energy!

This week I would like to tell you about anchovy packaging.  Overall, it is a beautiful thing. Though I do not eat anchovies myself, I have always admired its packaging... for some reason it tends to have a bit of a retro look and the tin is usually that lovely square shape with rounded corners and the little opener on top...

Well, the Portuguese company Conserveira de Lisboa particularly strong anchovy packaging.  I discovered this in a shop here in London on Columbia Road called, "A Portuguese Love Affair," which claims to share some of the best things made in Portugal. They do not have a site, but here is their FaceBook page. Evidently, the Conserveira de Lisboa shop is a true traditional store, almost 100 years old, and a must-see when in Lisbon.
